Gwen Volpe RPh, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, FASHP is the Senior Director of Medication Technology at Fresenius Kabi responsible for RFID commercial strategy, Vendor Partnerships, Medication Technology initiatives, and Voice of the Customer perspectives. Additionally, she leads a team of pharmacists that support Fresenius Kabi’s business units with their clinical, operational, and technical pharmacy expertise. Gwen has held leadership roles in various facets of pharmacy including hospital, long-term care, medication automation, and now pharma in a career that has spanned more than 25 years. Gwen focuses her spare time volunteering for organizations that focus on healthcare technology that improves patient safety and clinician efficiency. She is a long-standing member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Automation Operations, proudly serves on the GS1 US Healthcare Executive Leadership Committee, and is Co-chair of the GS1 US Healthcare RFID initiative workgroup. She is an Advisory Board Member of the Thriv Coalition for IV accuracy, resides on the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Committee on Technology, and is a member of the Advisory Board for healthcarediversion.org. Gwen is also an active member of the healthcare committee of the RAIN RFID Alliance and the AIM pharma group which is focused on the use of AIDC technologies for identifying and tracking prescription drugs. Gwen is a Fellow of ASHP which recognizes pharmacists who have excelled in pharmacy practice and distinguished themselves through service and contributions to ASHP. In 2022, she received the ASHP Distinguished Service Award which recognizes a member whose volunteer activities have supported the mission of their Section and helped advance the profession.
